The Healing Artist Collective touches on the raw discomfort of the day-to-day struggles posed by issues surrounding mental, physical, and emotional well-being. The collective represents a wide breadth of experiences, including chronic pain, autoimmune disorders, trauma, neurodivergent diagnoses, and the intersectional complexities that lie therein. In a climate where concerns surrounding mental health often fall on deaf ears, the artists of the Healing Artist Collective seek to “speak” on these issues through the visual language of art. Through their chosen mediums, artists of the collective use art as a means of communicating their own individual journeys to find healing.

Struggling to Be Heard expresses the intimate accounts of each artist’s journey. The audience is invited to spend time with each artist's work to really take in what they are trying to communicate through their unique perspective.

This exhibition is on view in Glen Echo Park's Popcorn Gallery from July 5, 2024 until July 28, 2024, and features the following artists: Abulrahman Naanseh, Adrian Scalzo, CJ Davis, Michelle A. Smith, Moe Lewis, Liz Louise, and Tessie Van Dyke.
